alking down the street, Jesus saw a man blind from birth.” (John 9:1,2)
Read
The man Jesus encountered was a person who had never seen the light of day. He was a helpless individual that had been blind from birth. He couldn’t get any man’s attention. He depended on others around him to notice him. As we have learned in our scripture, Jesus went looking for this man. As Christians, we often believe those who need our help will find us. It appears, Jesus didn’t think that way. He went looking for the man. Like Jesus, we must be the ones going out and finding those who are in desperate situations.
This man had been blind from birth. He lived everyday knowing there was nothing he could do to reverse the fatal illness. He had no control over the situation. He could not contribute to society. He was deemed a leech by his own community. He couldn’t hold a job. He was someone else’s responsibility. Nobody outside of his parents really cared for him. He knew deep down he was just a burden. He thought nobody noticed him. Yet, one beautiful day, someone did notice him. Jesus went out to find him.
Reflect
Are there situations that you don’t have control over?
Are there times in your life when you don’t feel noticed? Describe those times and emotions.
Remember
God notices you.
